Last week between the 28th October and 31st October we celebrated Halloween and Diwali by organizing a range of activities for all the students in each section of our school, with the help of our conversation assistants, Payton and Puneeth.
For Halloween, Payton prepared a variety of fun activities. Upper primary students saw a presentation about North American Halloween traditions, and they played a game afterward. In lower primary, Payton read a story, and the students made art using Halloween vocabulary. In infant classes, students loved hearing a story and playing a memory game together.
In ESO, Bachillerato, and FP, Puneeth did a presentation about how Diwali is celebrated in India and also projected a short video about why Diwali is celebrated. Diwali is a festival celebrated in India around October-November, it celebrates the homing coming of Lord Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshman after 14 years in exile. It’s a festival of joy and prosperity and is celebrated with lots of lights and fireworks. During this festival families come together, offer prayers, exchange gifts and have a big feast. It symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. It is celebrated over five days and in parts of India Diwali is considered the beginning of the new year. Students also had the opportunity to discuss their favourite festivals and celebrations either from their homes, villages or their countries. The students from Bachillerato are working in small groups to present their favourite celebrations this week.
